I completed the PiBoIdMo challenge by coming up with 30 picture book ideas during the month of November! Huzzah!
It's not like nailing a 50,000 word novel, but I'm still pleased to have met the goal. Here are a random 5 ideas on my list, in no particular order of preference:
1 - The Lost Things Man (need to work on the title). A strangely friendly creepy guy shows up at a small town once a year, bringing a huge sack of lost toys/trinkets/treasures so kids can come get their missing stuff back. But there's a catch... there's always a catch. I don't know what the catch is yet... but trust me... it will be catchy.
2 - A family that lives in a house the size of a refrigerator, and their fridge is the size of a house
3 - A Rhino in a Kayak. (The image of this simply seems funny to me. I'm sure the accompanying story will come to me some day)
4 - Jelly Bob (At some point on our Thanksgiving road trip, Cecilia told me the name of a character in her book and I mis-heard her, thought she said Jelly Bob. This made me laugh. No story idea here, just a funny name, but sometimes that's all I need. Perhaps the rhino in the kayak's name will be Jelly Bob!)
5 - The Christmas _____ (a looooooooong time ago there were auditions for a Christmas icon under which parents would put presents for their kids. Many seemingly randomly odd things tried out but in the end, the sturdy and classic pine tree won the honor.)
And there are 25 more just as genius as these! The whole PiBoIdMo experience was very enjoyable, especially the inspirational guest blog posts which I read each November day on children's writer Tara Lazar's blog.
Lastly, I again have to say, Ward Jenkins (the artist who made these clever PiBoIdMo images) is a real talent and a funny guy. I started following him on twitter last month and he's very entertaining.

PS Now I am preparing to start the 12x12 in 2013 challenge which is to write a picture book manuscript every month during 2013. More on that later!
